State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit has requested that the current month’s loan installments not be collected from the extremely poor borrowers in the flood-affected areas of Rangamati.
He directed Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Najma Ashrafi to request the concerned NGOs not to charge any additional interest or penalty due to delay in payment of installments.
The State Minister made this request at a press briefing held at the Rangamati Deputy Commissioner’s office on Sunday (July 12) after a meeting with the heads of various departments of the district.
He said that many people in this area have been affected by the floods.
Many of them have taken loans from various NGOs. In the current situation, it is extremely difficult for these borrowers to pay the current month’s installments.
Therefore, he raised the issue of accepting this month’s installment later and not imposing any interest or penalty due to delay in the meeting.
The State Minister said the Deputy Commissioner will convey this request to NGO officials working in Rangamati.
The meeting was attended by Rangamati-2 constituency MP Advocate Dipen Dewan, District Police Superintendent Muhammad Abdur Rakib, Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board Member (Joint Secretary) Sumon Barua, Rangamati Hill District Council Chief Executive Officer Khondaker Mohammad Rizaul Karim, Civil Surgeon Dr. Nuen Khisa, Executive Engineer of the Roads and Highways Department Sabuj Chakma, Executive Engineer of the Bangladesh Power Development Board Jalal Uddin and officials from various departments.
