Türkiye imposes strict ban on publishing students’ photos and videos online

Turkey has imposed a strict ban on the publication of photos, videos and personal information taken at school on all online platforms, including social media, to protect students’ privacy. At the same time, the country’s Ministry of Education has ordered educational institutions to quickly remove all such content that has been previously published.
The decision was announced in a 10-point directive sent to all schools in the country on July 9. The directive, issued under Turkey’s Personal Data Protection Law, states that no personal information about students can be published on educational institution websites, official social media accounts, or any other online medium.
The prohibited information includes student names, class-wise lists, student identification numbers, national identity card numbers, exam results, attendance information, and other education-related records. In addition, the publication of photos or videos of students and officials and employees of the educational institution is also prohibited.
