In the coming weeks, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić will resign and call early presidential and parliamentary elections. He announced this at a rally in Belgrade , according to the local newspaper Novosti.
Speaking to the crowd, Vučić said that this was his last time doing this as president, as “these weeks are his last” in office.
“I loved and still love Serbia more than anything in the world. At every moment, Serbia was the only thing on my mind, and it was only for Serbia that I fought. I wanted to serve no one else—only you, the citizens of Serbia, and my only homeland,” he declared.
Vučić thanked his fellow citizens for their support and trust, without which, in his words, he “would not have been able to do anything that has been done over the years.”
“I didn’t want to bend because I knew that Serbia was behind me,” the politician emphasized.
The “Serbia – One Family” rally took place in front of the National Assembly building in Belgrade. According to the Serbian Ministry of the Interior, approximately 207,000 citizens attended.
Earlier, Vučić spoke about what he might become after leaving the presidency.
