Meta has removed a controversial Instagram feature that allowed users to use AI to change the photos of public accounts following criticism.
Meta said the feature was introduced earlier this week alongside other AI tools, but it failed to meet people’s expectations, so it is no longer available.
Earlier this week, Meta announced a new AI image generator called Muse Image, developed by Meta’s own AI unit, Meta Superintelligence Labs.
Meta announced a feature that would allow users to @-mention a public Instagram account and create a new photo using that account’s photo. The feature used a user’s photo in this way, but there was no way to tell the user whose photo it was, which immediately sparked a backlash.
