Drugs are being sold openly in Dhaka 2026

Along with hidden spots, drugs have now taken to the streets. Drug dealers in the capital, like peddlers and hawkers, are seen openly selling these deadly products.

Drugs are even available for ‘home delivery’ through online orders. The current drug situation in Dhaka is more dire and worrying than ever.
According to various government and private surveys, approximately 8.2 million people in the country are currently addicted to drugs in one way or another. A large portion of them are in the capital, Dhaka.

In such a reality, law and order and public safety are also under great threat. Protecting the young generation from terrible social diseases like drugs is now one of the biggest challenges of the time.
The area adjacent to the railway line near Karwan Bazar is now notorious as the hottest drug
selling spot in Dhaka. A visit to the area revealed that drugs are being sold openly on both sides of the railway line from the Karwan Bazar Fish Market rail crossing to Nakhalpara railway station.

Drug dealers are calling out like hawkers, asking, ‘What do you want, marijuana or yaba?’ Seeing this scene, for a few moments, it may seem like a drug paradise.

On the main road near the railway crossing adjacent to the fish market, drug dealers are approaching people in vehicles like hawkers and offering to sell drugs.

Babu, Raju and other drug dealers said that they sell drugs on behalf of others and also consume drugs themselves. They are paid a few packets of drugs and 200 taka per day as compensation for selling drugs.

Talking to drug dealers, it was learned that there are approximately 20 to 25 drug dealers active along the railway line. Each of them has four to five salesmen under their command.

However, it was not possible to find out any information about who the main suppliers were.
